Living in The Portland OR Downtown Area Has Wonderful Advantages
Posted on Friday Feb 19, 2010 Under New IdeasThe downtown lifetyle might not fit everyone’s personality, but for those who are drawn to it, dowtown Portland real estate provides perks that other cities just don’t have.
It’s clear that one of the best advantages to living in the heart of downtown Portland is ease of transportation to and from Portland’s downtown and within it. For most residents, walking, biking, and public transit are the preferred method of moving around. Of course, there is no requirement for cars or a bicycle if you use Portland’s public transportation. But Portand is quote a flexible city and functions well with all methods of transportation.
Walking to work is a great way to get (and stay) healthy, and Portland is very definitely inviting to pedestrians. In fact, Portland’s city blocks were constructed considerably smaller than those in some other cities (200 feet instead of a typical 300 to 800 feet), making for a closer walk to Portland’s ubiquitous corner shops. If your job is downtown, this means you may truly be able to sell your car for good.
Portland’s downtown has very nice residential areas where you can pick up a Portland loft and reside in the city’s core in style. Depending upon where your place of employment is, you may end up within easy walking distance of it.
There are some very good neighborhoods to think about if you want to live in a converted loft in Portland, but probably the most popular is The Pearl District. Popular due in part to the many shopping amenities and convenient public transportation, The Pearl District is also home to many trendy art galleries and upscale businesses.
